Just picked up a 97 crosstackle that hasn't been used since being taken out of the water and winterized 3 yrs ago... Boat and engine have been in storage and show very little wear -apparently hardly ever used. Guess ?'s are what to do about the old gas.... I'm considering draining..adding 5 gal of new sloshing it about and draining that... worried about sediment build up... and what about oil and lower unit grease ? any advise would greatly be appreciated.

If the tank is removable then dump what ever is in it first and inspect the tank for rust and sediments. Drain the lines and drain the carbs paying attention to what comes out.

Remove the spark plugs and spray some oil in the cylinders, ring free, engine tune or Marvel mystery oil seem to work well to coat the walls. Turn the flywheel a few times to slosh the oil around.

Check for critters in all the little orifices. Spiders and bees love to clog things up and build nests in OB motors and mice like to chew on wires.

I am sure others will have more ideas so keep watching this post and reading others about waking a sleeping engine.

When you to get it running keep a watchful eye on the P hole and engine temp to be certain the impeller is pumping cooling water.

I would dump the lower unit and inspect the fluid that comes out and replace with fresh. Also inspect the O rings on the drain plugs to be sure they will seal.

If your engine was properly winterized and stored out of the weather I would think you should be good to go after a couple of short shake down cruises.

Best of luck.

Gary
