Motor for 1966 13'

I don't even know which ones would be a good fit, but I think about 35 hp should be good. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it will be greatly appreciated.

So you must first decide if you want to keep it that way or modify it to a 20" transom either by filling in the top of the boats transom or by using a setback/jackplate bracket. Do you want 2 or 4 stroke? New or used? Whats going to be the boats intended useage? Going to pull any tubes etc with it? I repwoered my 1969 13 Sport with a 2004 40hp 2stroke Nissan as it was the only 40 hp with PT&T with a 15" shaft. My only problems have been with the carbs, they seemed to get clogged easily if not run all the time. However there was a problem with the rebuild kit when i had the carbs done. So hopefully this next time they are apart the problem will go away for good. other than that i am pleased with the power, weight and economy. You do have to be a little careful when coming off plane and do it slowly or you will get a little water over the transom. On the hunt for a classic 19 or 21 Whaler

The boat will mostly be used for fishing. Probably won't pull anything with it, but you never know. This is the first I heard about being able to modify the transom height but I will have to take that into concideration.

Member Personal Page Posts: 735 Comments: 7 Joined: 02/15/07	Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look at that plate. I had heard 40 hp was the max but I wondered if the age of the boat made a difference. The boat is in good shape for it's age, but I did see some small cracks about 1" long in the back corners. They aren't anything you can feel, but you can see them. It seems that it might be too much weight hanging off the back when I'm towing. Does anyone have any input on the possibility of a problem? I still haven't picked up the motor because of the snowstorm. If it is too much for the boat, I can always go with a smaller motor.

Member Posts: 44 Comments: 0 Joined: 02/04/07	Probably too late but... I use my 13" for fishing only and found that a 25HP 4 stroke fits the bill perfectly. It's quiet, sips gas and I can troll all day with no problem. IMHO a 25HP wouldn't do for tubing as such but for fishing it's great.
