I had read that when Hunt and Fisher first tested the first prototype 13 footer on long Island Sound in 1957 it was such a rough riding boat that Hunt decided to build a hook into the bottom on the mold for the production boats scheduled for first production in 1958, and never tested the results of the hooked bottom, and as a result the boat lives with that for better or worse. I always wondered if they could have redesigned the bottom and done better. Another thing I noticed in the bow on photo of the smirked 13 footer in the article that I never noticed before are the two lifting strakes on the center V hull. My unsmirked `61 hull doesn`t have these and also has more of a pronounced keel. Rich
