Member Posts: 19 Comments: 0 Joined: 03/25/10	Hello the lower unit on my 1989 70 horse yamaha needs about 1000 k in repairs. think it is time to give up the ghost. My dealer recommends a new 75 horse evinrude as a replacement - I like the 90 horse. Is it worth the 2K more? I use the boat for bay fishing mostly - go out in the ocean sometimes. This would be for a 1989 Newport 17 footer.

However, that would obviously be up to you in the end. The 75hp and the 90hp weigh the same. http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...ticle_id=5 I guess then the question would be, do you want to spend 2k more for 15 more hp...? There is a member here that decided to put the 75hp E-Tec on their boat and save the 2k... Don't remember who they were at this time. Many others have decided to buy the 90hp. Maybe take a quick look in the personal page section and see members with the E-Tec motors on their 16/17' models. Good luck with your decision and let us know which way you go.
