I got roughly 45 mph on semi-smooth water with my '66 17'' and a '99 90 hp Yamaha but i backed off because the RPMs were getting high. If I remember correctly it was around 5200 RPMs.

In a 1 to 2 foot chop it's fast enough to make your eyes water, and require you to change your under wear when you get back to the dock. It's very scary... then I go out and do it again !

With my wife and two young children, I maxed out at 42mph. I have a 17' Montauk with a 135 Mercury. I like to run a steady 32 mph.

Oddly enough, I spun the hub in my prop last weekend. We have a real good prop guy here locally. I went and saw him and he sold me a 4 bladed prop. He said I may pickup more speed (not interested) but more importantly the boat should handle better. I'll let you guys know after the weekend.

You should not have any anal seepage until you hit 60 in a Whaler.
