Does anyone know how much a old late 1960's Johnson outboard weighs? I was curious how much of a differnce it would make with updating to a much newer engine?

Roughly 150-170 lbs depending on options for what is known as the Johnson Big Twins which are 40hp. I went to a modern Merc 40 3cyl two stroke on my 13' and it was 206 pounds. The small 40hp 4strokes are another 50 pounds on top of that. If you can find a good running old Johnson or one to restore they are great on the 13's.

Had a Johnson 40hp electramatic, which had the electric shift gearbox and ran great. I want to say it weighed somewhere arround 160lbs. I could barely lift it myself when I was working on it in my shop. Try e-bay under Johnson or Evinrude as I see them from time to time there for not much and usually fresh water run.

I'm with whalerman....I purchased my 1962 Evinrude on ebay for $100.00...shipping was $250.00....great condition, spent another $200.00 on parts....motor runs great!!!

See personal page for what $400 -500 can buy

I have a 71 Evinrude 40hp ss that weighs 140 on my bathroom scale. It has electric start but no power tilt n trim. I intend to run it till it dies. Look in the articles section under engine choices to see what your options are and how much they weigh for a new engine.
