Hello fellow Whalers; I have a story to share with the site. On July 5 2010, I was on Lake Michigan crossing from Chicago to Michigan City Indiana. 28-31 knot wind from the south-southwest. My heading was east-southeast. I was in my 23' Dauntless with a 250 Verado. It was a rough ride. The Dauntless was able to handle the journey. The trip distance was 38 miles, about 2 hours of bouncing around. I really had to stay on top of the throttle and steering. Some water from spray of the waves on to the deck. I was glad I had a windshield with some spray. After I finished the journey it was reported to me that the waves were 3-4. I felt the waves were every bit of 4'.

I primarily boat on inland lakes, and the Dauntless is magnificent. However, if you boat in choppy conditions, you might want to think about an Outrage, given its sharper V hull design. The downside of the Outrage (comparable length to the 23' Dauntless) is the fact the open bow does not have as much room for guests.

Cheers, Kevin

Just for clarification.

This is your 2008 Dauntless 230 model... Correct?

The 2008 Outrage 240 does have a deeper V...

Good information that might sway a person one way or the other.

No, it is not called a 23' Dauntless in any of the Whaler catalogs.

What does the side of your boat say?
Dauntless 230.... Correct....???
Then you have a Dauntless 230 or a 230 Dauntless....

In 2002, Whaler changed their naming system to include 3 digits.
So, for everyone to know what another is talking about, we need to get the names correct...
and we use the Boston Whaler catalog terminology...
Thanks...
