Hello ever one, I got a 22 foot Revenge that the last owner had covered inside and outside with enamel paint, and it has started to crack like crazy all over. Is there anything I can do to get this stuff off, short of sanding it off... Thanks
Most use either Citri-strip or peel away. The citri-strip is a natural stripper and is not that toxic. Peel away is scary stuff. If you use it wear lots of protection along with glasses and a respirator. The peel away does work faster that the citri-strip and neither will harm gelcoat. Well if you left the peel away on for to long (couple hours) it will soften the gel coat. Both are available at Home Depot for 1/2 of what they want for it at West (or Theft) Marine.
You could try a paint stripper to get the paint off however, no matter what you will need to sand some if not all of the hull to get every last bit of it off. I would look into having the hull soda blasted and respraying the gelcoat.
A word of advice that is so true for anything but, Jimh used it in context of paint removal.
Question:
What is the best tool for removing old paint on a whaler?
Answer:
Your wallet....Have someone else do it for you.
