A friend of my mother's has (had!) a 15 Super Sport with a Johnson 60 on it which basically just sat on its mooring in Marblehead harbor for the last few years. We'd go out in it every once in a while to help her pull her dozen or so lobster traps, and she always commented on how she didn't know why she still had it since she didn't use it much, and her sons and grandkids weren't interested in it since they had boats of their own. I of course told her that I would be happy to take it from her when she finally decided to sell it since it would be perfect for my growing family. So of course we're headed to M'head for this weekend and come to find out that she just sold it--for $4000! Someone got a great deal. I'm trying not to obsess on "the one that got away". What's your story?

Two years ago I had a spectacular Outrage 18 sold out from under me for $11,000. Today, that boat is back on the market for $8,500, or best. I 'd bet I could buy the boat for $7,500, or less.

A few years back there was what i believe was a Revenge with the inboard outboard. It sold very fast before i even got to look at it. I live in Nevada and there are not as many Whalers around here to pick from. Joe

You didn't say what year motor was on it so they may have not got such a great deal. The 1st lesson in "Whaler" hunting is that if you see 1 that you like and you don't snap it up right away, you'll probably lose the sale. You have to "REALLY" hunt these boat's down ! The reward is worth it. Don't get discouraged, keep hunting.

Not only do you have to be patient with your search, but also make sure you will be able to recognize that what you were hoping to see and what you actually see are not the same thing and you can walk away from it. When I was on my search I found what I thought was going to be my dream come true. It was 650 miles away. After seeing the pictures my wife and I headed out to bring her back home.........We were so excited we made the drive in one day. When we finally got to see it in person we were extremely disappointed. Lets just say this Seller was very talented with Photoshop. As hard as it was to do, we headed back home empty handed and disappointed, but low and behold the very next week we stumbled across the one we have now and it was only 50 miles away. Just be patient and it will show up.

There was an Outrage 20, I think 1987 for sale here several months ago. From what the guy stated on the phone, it was in exceptional shape and ran like a champ. I forget what motor was on it but he said it was like new. I asked him if I could come take a look (he was 3 hrs away) and he said he had a guy that was looking at it. I called back an hour later..............it was sold. The advertized price.............$4000. Seems the guy had some major medical bills and needed money FAST. Guess he got his wish.

Right before the economy & banks took a dive along with my 401K, I was bidding on a Montauk in Grand Forks, ND listed on EBAY. I had a buddy all lined up to take a drive with me. It was a mid 80's Montauk that was really clean with a newer engine. There was no reserve and it was up to about $6000 and I was prepared to go as high as $6500. I didn't put a high enough max. bid in and lost it at the last second by $100. I kicked myself over and over on the loss of that boat. In retrospect with the economy going down the dumper it probably was good I lost the bid. At that time I had done no research on what a fair price was or anything. It was a seat of the pants thing like new car fever!

Like ioptfm, I got into my truck and drove 650 miles to New Orleans to look at an Outrage 21'. Pictures looked good, and the owner said it was in "great shape - motor ran like a top". He couldn't believe someone would drive that far and not buy it. He came down over $2000 in 15 min. However, I turned around and headed home empty handed. I learned the hard way, go with your gut. If it doesn't feel right walk away. I looked at 6 different bananas. What one person thinks is in "good shape", isn't to me. For a certain hull like my '73 Outrage, I will drive. But for a 13, 15 or 17, I won't. Too many within a 100 miles of me for sale on any given day.
I glad the other 5 got away.

I have keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a Dauntless 17 dual console or larger. Stumbled across this bargain over the weekend... I was close to one 5-6 years ago before going for the SSL
Former owner called me back today.. sold...
Hopefully someone on the forum got this one... $6200... A deal even if the engine was trash

This Classic Outrage 21 did sell within four hours of being parked in public view..
Upon phoning the number that night, I was told that the $14 Ks price had been met and that the Whaler was actually sold..
