1. Does anyone know a good Merc mechanic in the Chicago area? I have a 1991 115hp and (at some point) will require a good mechanic.
2. I just replaced the throttle cable on our motor (mentioned above) because it snapped and now we're having problems getting the correct range on the throttle. I've adjusted the cable rest position in the motor and my only results are either a.) idle too high, but get top RPM at WOT or b.) idle correctly, but fall about 700 rpm short at WOT. Is anyone aware of adjustments that I can make at the throttle control (which is a 1991 Quicksilver control).
Not specifically, but the Teleflex control I installed recently had several different "configurations", based on engine manufacturer. It sounds like you have the linkage in the control set up for a Johnson or other brand that has faster carburetor linkage than the Merc.
But, since you probably didn't change the linkage at the throttle control, maybe you attached the cable in the wrong place?
Just a thought.

Thanks- the control isn't a Teleflex control, the cable is. The control is original Quicksilver, so there aren't any configurations to make that I'm aware. I'm curious, though, if there are range adjustments that can be made. Anyone know?
Yup, got that. I took a look at my old Quicksilver control (1985 vintage). It has two different attachment points for the throttle cable that provide two different ranges of motion, although they're close together and the difference is only slight.
I was only thinking your problem may be from attaching to the point with the least amount of throw. Other than that, I can't say, but I would doubt that a Teleflex cable itself could be the limiting factor.
Let us know what you find out.
