Looking at a 2000 90 HP 4 stroke Mercury outboard. Does anyone out there in Whaler-world have knowledge of tis vintage engine in regards to dependability, power, quirks etc.
I recall that the early model years of Mercury's 90 hp 4 stroke were carburated (versus fuel injected). Many owners who purchased these motors new reported bogging down of the motor due to dirt and debris on occasion.
The carbs on this model have very small orifices and warrant annual cleaning. Owners who did take care and serviced the carbs reported no additional problems and were pleased with the motor's performance.
