Yiddil,
Make sure your trailer is in tiptop condition before attempting to access Manhattan...
Did it twice in a 24' box last week...VERY rough ride.....!Frown

My issues for this has always been the long trailer ride from Virginia...No the best thing for my back, and secondly, the Chesapeake bay Swim event is that weekend and i usually participate..

But I'll look and see...

My Trailer is the original trailer< Karavan, I greese here regularly and flush her, but don't do uch else so thats the other concern. I don't have to trailer at all and use her for winter storage mostlySmile

If I dont trailer much this year, i will probably sell the trailer this year.......

Roger, wow ! How long will you be gone ! That Island will be there when you get back. It's a long summer I'm sure we'll do it together at some point. My summer schedule is now in effect after a winter of pulling off shifts and overnights in the Hospital, three days a week till Sept. Ya-hooooo !!!!

Jim, I leave May 5th and may stay for 6 months or more. But my home, car, boat & motorcycle are here on Long Island. So, I expect to be back often.
Maybe I can still fit the Around Manhattan trip into the plan.

Well, here we are in 4 weeks the largest collection of Boston Whalers ever will converge upon The Statue of Liberty then navigate their way around Manhattan. We have drawn the attention of the people in Edgewater Florida (thats right Whaler)who will be providing us with trinkets, Tee-shirts,first aid kits ect. The time is upon us to firm up participation, make plans with others who will make the journey in your direction. The crew of the Scrimshaw will plot a course towards the West, meet up with a Ribside and Menemsha off Northport N.Y. then proceed towards Mamaroneck, N,Y meeting up with Robert for our entry into the Harbor, anyone heading in this direction feel free to contact me as there is safety in numbers and the more the merrier ! Please post your intent , vessel information, plans on means of arrival and contact info. Thanks , Jim

I work in NYC right next to hell gate. The water is not as bad as some would think. I have been through there many times in a 14' alum boat with a 9.9 engine. It does get rough at times but nothing life threatening. The fee for launching in Nyack (near the Tappan Zee Bridge) is $20 for the day or $150 for the season. The two things you need to be aware of is the airmail you might get from the people on the bridges. I haven't seen much in recent years. The next thing is the RR bridge between the Bronx and Manhattan. The clearence at high tide is only 2-3 ft. The bridge opens for the circle line, not sure who else it opens for. Any other questions about the area I would be happy to answer.

PS I plan to be there with my 6 yo son in tow!

Harley, my crew also stands at the ready to make the journey via the "Gate" .Again, I will start from Black Rock Harbor in Bridgeport,Ct some time around 8AM the passage towards NYC will see many additions as we proceed west, the flotilla will grow along the way as vessels meet up ,plans are to fly "The Flag" off Capt.Robert's Outrage that will join the armada in Mamaroneck,N.Y. for it's entrance to the Harbor then onward to the Statue. The plans remain loose as to participants arrival in the waters of the Statue of Liberty where the Flotilla will amass for a 10:30 AM departure head up the Hudson and cicle the city. Thats all I got from my end ! Weather and other conditions may affect the actual tide levels.

Hi all,
Prior obligations have been set aside for this much more important (and fun) event. So count in another Montauk. I would like to meet up with those leaving out of Northport L.I.. Are any of you watching this thread? If not, Jim do you know any details on that ? It seems that you have contact with them.
Look forward to this gathering, Josh

I am hoping to be squared away in time for the event and in the water with our 21' CQ, sailing out of Westbrook, CT . What are your thoughts on a start time assuming cruise speed ~ 25-30 mph in order to rendezvous with your party off of Black Rock?
