Hey Bill that is a lot of work. I just look at my water proof Swiss watch on my left wrist, even when I'm swimming I don't have to climb back in the boat to see what time it is. Kidding aside those Italian ones look nice.

Back to the topic, I put Doel Fins on my 2008 60 HP Merc last weekend and yesterday took them back off as they really didn't improve performance as was expected and they are ugly. Whale fins on a Whaler don't look like a true Whaler.
(anybody want to buy a set of one time used genuine Doel Fins, $25.00)

Bill,
On a different thread you talked about your GPS receiver. Can't you pull the time off that?

I do admit I have the time on my Merc Eco gauge while underway since most of the engine data is up on my chart plotter screen. Nice to see.

So, what did I do for my whaler today?

Put ice in the cooler and I'm headed to the Spit on the north river for a few cold ones....

Stephen.

Stephen: the GPS receiver is the NMEA standard type ... but I am not yet familiar with ways to extend its use to other devices. The two I'd think about would be a Plotter/GPS and a radio with DSC for emergencies. DSC uses the GPS coordinates ...

I see a learning curve ahead regarding the multiple uses of a single GPS receiver ... they're supposed to be somewhat standardized!

ejo, i agree the doel fin is ugly, but it improved my performance above and beyond my expectztions..so i will live with the ugly..t not only cut my bow rise down tremndously, the whole running characteristics changed..for the better..whaler on

Both of our 13' Whalers had Doel Fins on them when we bought the boats so we have no before/after to compare, but they sure jump up on plane quickly.

Cleaned her up this weekend after only her third winter stored outside. Both engines started right up without needing to charge the batteries, both ran good but just needed to change one thermostat. Biggest issue was the steering was frozen so took a while to pound it out and get it all clean and greased.

I spent a little over an hour sanding the wood for my console. Then it started to rain again and I had to scramble to put it back away.

Opening day is coming and I'm not seeing being ready. I have missed the opener 5 years in a row at least. Never missed the opener when I had a Striper, lol.

Had the nice folks at Barnacle Bill's in NJ do a 300 hour service on my 2012 ETEC 90 and install new throttle and shift cables. The Montauk is ready to go when the weather breaks.

Wrapping up a transom delamination repair. About 8 layers of fibreglass built up and sanded. Should get final gelcoat tomorrow. :)

Thanks! The transom repair has been easy -- better now than later ;)

The Quigley is awesome and well worth the points I spent with the Mrs to get it -- takes me and the grandsons wherever the wild winds of fortune may blow ;)

And besides ... Jeeps are for girls ;)

wont be long, will be uncovering the dauntless for the season, however, it wont be floating in the ocean all summer as in past several years. my son asked if i were keeping the boat and i mentioned it will be in the family for generations i hope. i spoke of places to boat where i havent been and he was glad i was still going to use it..and expressed interest in going..made my day..ritzy rags once posted whats after the whaler is gone..i cannot think of life without my whaler..as long as im alive its my intent to float that boat..happy motoring

Over the past few weeks to my 17' 1992 Montauk SE:

1.New/used 2002 90 Yamaha two smoke
2.I made myself a teak steering wheel center cap just like what used to come on the classic hulls.
3. Installed a Martin Marine Design swim platform to the transom. Worth the money!
4. Ordered a new windscreen from UPD plastics.

Been awhile since this thread has seen any activity, so I thought I would mention that I uncovered the 115 4 stroke merc that has been sitting for a year and do some preventive maintenance. Pulled 4 spark plugs and sprayed a good dose or WD40 in each cylinder. rotated the flywheel by hand to run the pistons around and reassembled everything. Now i will rest comfortably knowing things will be ok over the winter..happy holidays to the cult !
