The Montauk was washed and waxed. Finally installed the cooler seat back cushions that were purchased a year ago. Relocated and raised the cooler chocks to accommodate the new 94 quart cooler with its new cushion. Upsizing the cooler from 72 to 94 quarts sure improves the forward seating and storage!
Installed a new prop and went for a test ride. Wow, with the new prop the anti-ventilation plate is riding nicely out of the water! That was not so with the old, beat up prop. I am no longer contemplating raising the engine.

Splashed it yesterday after extensive winter repairs on my engine from a mechanic who really knows his stuff and fell in love with my Whaler all over again. For a while it's been a love hate relationship. Cruising on the water with the wind in my face and my motor humming...well, it was great!

After a long winters rest, I fired up and put a few more miles on my 1978 13' Sport today Amazing how those little boats make you still feel like a little kid. I shed about 30 years when I'm out in that boat.
I removed the deck on my 1983 GTX-18 so I could get a good look at the fuel lines. I think its time to replace the filler, vent and engine lines this year. I did start it in the slip and ran her for about 10 minutes. She sounded good but she's grounded until I get the new fuel hoses installed and reinstall the deck. At least the wood on that deck was still in good shape. The top of the fuel tank at the fuel pickup assembly had a interesting layer of black goop. It might have been about to spawn a new life form.

This was the best purchase ever. I love the new engine, if you have a 170 Montauk this is the must have engine for it.

Two days ago the seas were relatively flat on the southern coast of Maine. Doesnt happen very often..so took advantage. Out to sea at 6 am and cruising due south about 20 n m to Boone light..got to see the ledges at lo tide..one of the talllest light houses on the eatern seaboard..eerie history if you ever read a bout it..headed w toward the coast of york..about 6 nm..braved heaavy chop for a couple of miles before it flattenned out..and into York harbor for a snack..a gorgeous day..headed back north past nubble light, cliff house in ogunquit and on to perkins cove to say hi to Ryan the harbormaster..then off past Bibb rock and back into Wells Harbor..A great morning run in my big sixteen and a half foot boat. I would say its about 45 nm total. One of the things I look forward to all year..Hope you are enjoying the summer

We're down in AZ for the winter. In the last 2 weeks we've taken our 1980 13' Sport out to Lake Pleasant twice. About 4 hours on the water the first trip, 6 hours the second trip.
What a great way to enjoy 90* days!

Actually fit my 20' outrage in the garage this year by about an inch.
Ordered all new decals from Magic Brush and am in the prose of stripping off the old. Last night I sat in her and had a cold beer. It doesn't get better than that.

I removed an almost totally rusted away oil tank bracket. I find it hard to believe that Boston Whaler would put a steel bracket in an area that is sure to see salt water.

Swan the bird, or Swan the (very nice and very expensive) sailboat?

All four carburetors rebuilt, new fuel filter, plugs, thermostat, impeller, battery and a wash and wax to finish her off. At 20 years old she looks great and runs better than I've ever known her to. What a joy!

I wanted to know the time without pulling out my phone, I rarely wear watches. So I hit the 'net looking for dash-mount clocks that would match my existing gauges. I didn't like anything I saw. Then I found something beautiful, from a company that sells to aviators:
https://www.cumulus-soaring.com/adria...iatica.htm
These are tough, waterproof to 3 ATM, made for mounting and reading on a dash, etc. Very nice looking instruments. At a price.
I've spent a ton on my boat ... and all its accessories. But I just couldn't do the $95 for some reason. Just not convinced.
So I spent a bit less than $15 at Walmart. I can always replace it with the fancy timepiece, if I should feel compelled to do so in the future. (I probably won't)
