Took the Dauntless 15 out of storage and charged the battery yesterday. Air temp 47 degrees, water temp estimated 47 degrees. Wife wanted to put the boat in the water, who am I to argue? First short cruise of the year, planning for a longer Easter cruise today.

Took it out for a run up the St. Johns river to test out the new prop. And of course stopped for lunch and a cold beverage before heading back to the ramp.

Finished most of my winter projects this past week. I am the happy new owner of a 1996 Outrage 19 II. Installed a 2-bank battery charger, rebuild all 6 carbs on the outboard, lower oil change, new spark plugs, installed Racor fuel filter and ran new fuel lines, installed fish finder, installed new stereo & 4 new speakers, and cleaned everywhere I could.

Put in a bilge pump, fix the control box, and cables ( broke), remove some more old screws and plug the holes, checked the tackle box, made some sandwiches, going fishing in the morning.

Pulled the boat out of the shed this afternoon. Didn't pump the bulb in the fuel line and the 90hp 4-stroke Merc fire right up. I did of course have a problem with the trailer wiring (trailer wiring is such a POS), but got it fixed.
We'll head out on the Folly River tomorrow, cross the Stono River and anchor off of Little Bear Island. The wind is supposed to be 15-25 out of the ENE so will probably be a bit rough when we're exposed to the ocean. Only supposed to be in the low 70's, a bit cool for boating.

My whaler got a fresh new cover( of snow last week). Fortunately it melted pretty fast and I think we're done with that $#!$, starting to warm up.

Actually, the current Whaler is the 6th one total. The three I mention on my personal page are just in the past 5 years or so.
It was a bit windy and cool today, so instead of heading to the Folly River which is exposed to the ocean in a few places, we went to the upper Ashley River. Didn't see any alligators though. Whaler did great on its first outing of the year, no issues what so ever.

We took our 1971 13' Sport out on Lake Pleasant AZ today for about 4 hours. 90* with no wind or clouds and very few boats on the water.
We saw one eagle and a few blue herons while out. Then we finished the day at a waterfront bar for a beer and chili.
Darn near a perfect day!

A little wash, installed the cushions and various item back into it for the season. New set of rod holders on the rails. Bad news was found a few things that need fixing. No gasket on airbox cover and bottom carb is leaking fuel when motor is tilted up. Next warm day it gets a wash, wax and lower unit lube changed plus the two new issues.

Polish and wax inside and out. I think I'm going to get one of those low speed auto polishing machines today. I'm getting too old for this

Well, you fellas will all get a kick out of this one. This week, pulled my Whaler, my first, out of storage and spent a day cleaning it up for the season. Yesterday, a colleague's husband who has forgotten more about boats than I know, came over and we took it to a local lake. Put it in the water, the Merc fired up, and we blissfully headed across the lake. At the far end near the dam, a park ranger stepped out of his car replete with flashing lights and asked (told) me to return to the dock, which I did. He told me he had received complaints that a boat with a motor was on the lake and that he HAD to write me a ticket, couldn't just give me a warning and send me on my way. When I explained my ignorance (previously I had paddled this lake many times in my kayak and had boats whiz by me WITH motors) he explained that the rules had changed a couple of years ago... Too bad the lady who registered my boat at the parks administration office didn't read the boat registration that clearly stated the parameters of my 15 footer. Now I'm $45 lighter but a bit wiser. Tuition, I guess, in Boating 101.
So...words to the wise: check where you are going to go for hp/motor restrictions.
That said, cruising down the lake in my new to me Whaler was all that I hoped it would be.

Picking my whaler up from storage this afternoon after I fight the DC traffic... New Venture alluminum trailer delivered yesterday...going to switch out trailers and make the adjustments tonight then bring her home. Once home over the next couple of weeks I will reinstall all the teak (removed to oil over winter) and cusions, install newly made teak cooler cleat, new Lowrance chartplotter/depthsounder combo, install new light on T-top, new taylor made boat cover, wax and polish, put batteries back in..install new battery switch....boat has a perko dual battery switich under console that when in off position does not turn off cranking battery. I have tried to figure this out to no joy(even replaced the switch). I had been disconnecting the cranking battery while anchored and swimming as to not drain the battery from radios running. I am going to install a single switch back near the cranking battery that I can just flip on my way into the water...leaving DC in about 64 minutes to go play in traffic...

We are leaving AZ and heading back to WA tomorrow so we packed up our 1971 13' Sport to go into storage until late October. I used 3 bows to keep the covers raised so rainwater won't puddle up plus two inner tubes (from car tires). The tubes are standing on their ends and will support the covers.
The boat will be covered with a lightweight cover that is secured with straps to the frame to keep it in place. Over that will be a silver plastic tarp that is bungeed from side to side under the trailer and hull.
It'll stay that way until late October when we come back down.
