Bob, you should be commended for starting the greatest thread on the site, in my opinion :)

Dear Silentpardner, a great ful thanks for your kind words. Your reply prompted me to go in and checkout what you float on ! Nice....i love looking at the older rigs...maybe someday I will get to experience how those boats feel on the water....you inspire me to find a project boat to get into restoring..this just might be the beginning of my search..thank you again for the compliments...safe boating

Covered / tarped the whaler today, after removing contents. Not the greatest feeling, however, its our first sign of snowfalling tonite..33 degrees..a quiet snow falling..
this year I ran string s from the ridgepole hoping that the cover will shed the snow well, maybe without my help. It is nice to be able to continually improve on the way we do these things. Thanks to my wifes help to get this done and it only took us a little more than an hour.. its great that she shares in this boating experience. Thanks to you all in your sharing of projects and ideas.
A Healthy, Happy, Enjoyable and Festive Season to all You Whalerites ! Gotta love this site !!

Well, this my first Whaler that I purchased last month (check one off the bucket list); and I was dying to put it in the water this fall. But after taking it to Bass Pro to have the engine checked for hickeys and having some work done on it, the temperature has plummeted with snow in the immediate future, So, I took the batteries out and put it in storage for the winter. Had a great conversation with the techs about caring for the engine, as this is my first power boat; I'm a former kayaker. It's going to kill me looking at pictures, reading this and other websites, and dreaming of the coming spring.

This week I gave my Whaler a new toy....a Garmin Echo 50dv GPS/depth finder with down view sonar. Here's a link to Garmin's web page on this unit.
https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-th...19860.html

I won't be able to get the boat out to play with the GPS until January when we come back down to AZ, but at least it's installed. Just from playing with this unit in the garage I can't wait to get it out on the water and see what that downview sonar looks like.

Before storing for the winter, I removed the RPS from my 1979 Newport, removed all the old upholstery and ripped all the seems to create sewing patterns, my daughter will be crafting that next week, this weekend I stripped the varnish from the wood trim on the RPS backrest.

Next step is to clean up the oxidized wood and refinish

I put the new registration stickers on and started the polish and wax routine.

I drove the 30 miles inland on icy roads to my workshop in the country, trudged through waist high snow to open the garage door. First thing I did was walk around both Whalers to make sure nobody broke in and damaged them over the winter. All good, so checked out the 1968 custom Nauset and made a mental note to re-wire a new bilge pump in the tunnel. Then walked around the 1964 Sakonnett that got a new paint job last Spring. After promising myself to finish the restore this summer, and to then start checking out E-tec's for her re-power I headed home to shovel the driveway, yet again! On the way home decided to never spend another winter in Michigan (although that may involve a big cardboard box home under a bridge in South Florida).
Hope everyone here has a safe boating season this year. Chris

Finished my 8th coat of varnish, made the cover and frame that will cover my project when I move it outdoors for the summer, ordered new battery wires to accommodate battery move to new location, fixed trailer lights and did I mention more varnish? This project has helped me get through the winter! Can't wait to get her in the water.

I looked at my whaler from the driveway and wondered how long it'll be til the 5 foot snow banks receed so I can even get to the boat. No major projects planned. Just cannot wait to get her in the water and share a beer.

Well, it was 79 degrees here in coastal South Carolina yesterday. Still too cold to put the boat in the water. Maybe when it breaks 85. Shouldn't be long I don't think, a week or so.

Of course, we do have some crazies here, like Huckleberry, who probably goes out when it's a frigid 65 degrees.

You're spoiled. I would be all over it, if it was 79 degrees.

The snow was gone yesterday so I was able to walk over to the quanset hut storage in the back yard to look at the boat. Boat looks in good shape no critters so now I can't wait until it is 60 degrees or so to go boating.
Snow flurries in the forecast so we must wait
