Hi Gang,
Am I seeing things, or is this a photo shop work around,.
I bought the new 2008 Sport 130 and its all White, Gee If this is real, I feel bad I did not get that info it is available. Love the wood as well.
Always wondered why BW did stay with blue interior other than cookie cutter sales. But most Whalers owners of late and classic loved the blue.
I'm sure there are at least two reasons why wood isn't an option on the 50th anniversary model:
A) The Debacle with the wood on the 40th Anniversary Model.
2) Today's customer couldn't handle the maintenance required.
Sad, but true. Aside from the the boaters on this site and a few others, the average joe who buys a boat would freak out if he had to strip and refinish his boat before he was done paying for it. He'd be running for the services of his attorney, much like he did in 1998.
From a business standpoint, it doesn't make any real sense to offer a wood interior either. The labor required to produce and fit the wooden parts would price the boat far beyond what anyone but the most rabid Whaler fan would pay. In other words, it would hurt, rather than help, sales. These are all the same reasons there is no wood an any modern Whaler.
Of course, there's no stopping anyone from buying the 50th Anniversary model and ripping out the fiberglass interior and replacing it with wood. Just don't expect to make your money back on it any time soon.
Roy, sad but true. Most folks that would spring for the price of a new boat, are so busy working at their job, they never learned or had interest in learning the skills needed to any kind of maintenance on their boats or homes. I`m only assuming this is true, but I may be wrong, because in recent years Home Depot and like home stores have sprung up, and sell tools and material to new do it yourselfers.
I had a chance to go to the New York Boat Show yesterday and see the 13' 50th Anniversary Edition. They had two new 13's there- one was all white, but the other had the famous blue interior. It was really nice, but I agree that a wood interior would have been more attractive. It was set up slightly differenlty than the all white skiff- the main difference was the seats were far simpler in the blue boat. Anyway, the BW display was one of the best of the show because they had the 50th anniversary boat displayed prominently with a beautifully restored classic 13'. The sign said it was restored by a guy (John T???) in Florida (if you are a member of this site, I appologize for not remembering your name). The boat was gorgeous and looked every bit as new as the 50th Edition. I took a few pictures of the two boats, but I can't say any of them are fantastic- there were too many people around the display for proper photos. Anyway- I'm working all day today so I can't get them uploaded until tomorrow- I'll do my best to have them up by mid-day.
I'm doing my best to post the NY Boat Show pictures, but I'm having some trouble. Hopefully I'll get it sorted out soon. Here's an attempt at one of the pictures:
