Thanks for your experience with the Suzuki. It would not be one I would think of but you are very positive and that makes me adding it to my shortlist. One question for you, what kind of performance do you get with the Suzuki on the 24 footer? Decent hole shot and good top speed ?
take what catalpa says with a grain of salt...the zuke does not get double the mpg of any compeitior...it's about 1 gph better than the 300 verado and no where near the hole shot. The verado comes with power steering standard.....and a much better dealer network....and yes I have driven both engines extensively....
While I think the Verado 300 is a great motor, the Suzuki 300 is on my list when I repower my 25 Outrage. In my area the Verado is $4,000 more!
The Verado is 635lbs and according to Mercury requires premium 92 octane for maximum performance...Here is the linkhttp://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/..._specs.php...If this was not true, why is it on the Mercury website??
The Suzuki is 604lbs and does not require premium fuel for maximum performance. It also has a timing chain vs a timing belt on other brands...Not sure if the Verado has a belt or chain? Maybe someone can chime in? Both have electronic controls.
I'm not knocking Verado, just believe the Suzuki may be a better choice for an older 25 Outrage hull. Good luck in your choice.
the merc website says "for optimum performance" that is .5 mph in my tests and 4 others this I know of....buy the zuke as it is cheaper but not because you need 93 octane - see my spreaheet on page 1 of this thread...
