Sounds more and more like welding. I'm getting anxious to get onto it but Sandy storm repairs are still my task. I did hear from someone who might have found a replacement lower unit. I might have to invest in that just in case the weld doesn't work out. Thanks for the help, more to come...glad the wx is finally getting nicer, it puts more jump in the step.
