I delivered a 52' Cabo for someone that had 52 rod holders on it. It was an express model. The hard top had rocket tubes all the way around it. It looked like some kind of military boat.
There is no such thing as too many. My 25 outrage has 27 rodholders (7 on the leaning post, 5 down each side, 3 under each gunnel, and 4 on my t-top). The rodholders down each side are for drifiting for tarpon. The ones on my t-top were put on by mistake by the fabricator even though I had told him no rodholders on the t-top.
My 21 Outrage (banana boat) has 4 on the leaning post, 6 in front of the console, 3 under each gunnel, and 2 on each side for a total of 20.
I don't ever carry close to enough rods to fill up either rig but it allows me to fish different ways and gets the rods out of the way for any situation.
Our previous 13 had 10 total. 4 on the side rails, 5 in front of the engine and a fly rod holder on the port side. It also had 4 drink holders. It's not that you carry that much but in a small boat you need a place to put things where they won't get tripped over or stepped on.
I have 23 rod holders total on my 22 foot 1979 Revenge. Includes the 13 rocket launchers (5 on my leaning post/cooler seat). It does not include the two flush mounted rod holders in the gunwales (disabled because my wiring is underneath them). I like having a place to keep rods and rigging out of the way when fishing.
