I stayed up late with my love last night. I was in and out of her and all over her, I don't think there was a line on the I did not touch.
I wet sanded my boat.

Look like a great Valentine's day!
Can I hate you a bit you bunch of southerners for your year-round boating season? ;-)

Bob,
I looked up your hull for a picture (Dauntless 160 2006 Yachtworld for sale). Have you considered a rod holding transom bar that would attach at the stern (looks like existing railing might work for support). I have had no luck finding a clamp mount rod holder that could stand up to trawling that would not make me cringe for how tight I had to screw down (it would still move, scratch stainless, or casting would crack) for the horizontal stainless rails. Drift fishing or use of downrigger, no problems. Whalerbob turned me onto "C.E. Smith midmount rod holder 53610A" that mount on my vertical stainless rail support posts but it looks from the picture not many 90 degree verticals on you boat. Maybe using the fully adjustable clamping holders on your angled vertical supports.

Bob,
I was originally going to buy 4 of the CE Smith 53610a rod holders to go on my vertical rail supports. I changed my order to 2 because I had clearance at one of the areas where I could get the "adjustable mid mount" stainless rod holders to work. My electric downriggers are mounted under my top rail with very tight clearance from vertical support (hence the CE Smith). On the angled vertical support for your boat you may want to play with the 2 direction adjustable style before going CE Smith. I would guess any vertical support angle above 70 degrees would work.

ps the CE Smith is a fine looking piece of hardware

My 1960 Sport 13 got her new rain gear--a brand new Mills mooring cover which I picked up at 33% discount from their clearance sale. Even had some showers right after rigging it for the first time. Love the water droplets beading up and heading for the gunnels.

On my 5th application of tung oil for the gunwales. Nice paste working up with the sanding (using a multi tool with 400 grit designated for boat use). Truly resisting the urge for putting the stainless rails and rub rail back on. Want the gunwales dialed in before the new rigging, I do not even want to walk over it to work on the interior.

Working on a flaky bilge pump lately..must be the float sticking. Somebody said put some Tide detergent down there and let it slosh around for a bit. Anybody got some ideas? The bilge pump setup is a Rule 1100gph with an external float in a box.

Added 2 flush mount rod holders to the back casting deck for near shore trolling. Also had the canvas shop install 2 Velcro flaps in the bimini to allow 6 rod tips to stick above the bimini when they are in the front mounted console rocket launchers. Fishing tomorrow........

Bob,
I pine for your issue. My Whaler is getting retrofit this year. Cleaned, wired, anchor winch, jack plate, repower, gel coat repair, and other dignities. She did not and will not see action against fish this year but a deserved rest after 35 years of use and an owner that is resigned to give her a genuine rigging without stroking his own ego to get her in the water.

I stood up for the Whaler name today in defending the pleasurable time spent working on my eternal refit.
Some of our local boaters can exclusively burn gas while at the helm and jealously scoff at the time invested in my selfish pleasure.
Patience can be a rewarding virtue when working at making your Whaler "Just Right".
The secret is in the pudding and savoring the time getting there

In answer to the original question, I bought two pop-up cleats for mounting in the gunwale centers for spring-lines and/or fenders of my little dinghy.
