Trailer work. No boat or motor work, yet.
Fabricated replacement, dual-pivoting bunk brackets for the Carlise trailer in order to retain the auto-adjusting feature of the keel rollers and bunks. Made and covered new bunks.
This past weekend pulled the hubs, cleaned them and installed new bearings, races and seals. Cleaned and polished the spindles, and cleaned out the Reliable Sure-Lube passages. Reinstalled hubs, fresh grease and topped it all off with new Reliable Sure-Lube caps and new tires.

Replaced the trailer keel roller with a self centering polyurethane roller. Also replaced the shaft roller with a grease-able shaft roller. And replaced the trailer winch.

Took off all rails on my 1993 Montauk. Many of the screws were not holding tight. Drilled out all screw holes. Filled holes with Marine Tex, sanded, re-drilled and re-attached rails. Rails are now super tight.

Well, I sold my Justice last week and bought a 1977 Montauk yesterday. Today I will get her all cleaned up and make a game plan for restoration.

Nothing new on the boat other than a good waxing. I did however replace the trailer’s wheel bearings, races and seals. I went to my local Napa dealer for 1- 1/16 “bearings. I wanted the pack that comes with everything . They had (2) versions to choose from. One was considered light duty which was rated up to 3000 pounds. Never knew this existed. The other was twice as much and had no rating. Well I did the math and decided even with a safety factor added in, I wasn’t over 3000 pounds. I decided a lesser grade bearing was not worth the risk and spent the extra money.

Went to the Boat Show in Sarasota today and bought 2 Navy Blue dock lines. Figured I saved about $1.5 million (minus the $15 for the dock lines).

I pumped $100 worth of gasoline into her and added 1/2 gallon of XD100 oil to the oil tank. We are going fishing out of Westport, WA tomorrow for some spring time bottom fishing. Hopefully we will find a few ling cod to go with our rock fish.
WooHoo!
