When I went to finish the deal on the Johnson, I changed my mind and went for the saltwater 175 hp E-tec. 
We're going to try the Rebel prop.
I ordered the Tech series guages that Joe recommended and the single control with the key in it.
They also are installing dual batteries in my console, and my Garmin 178c GPS and transducer.

A 175 HP E-Tec on a 20' Outrage. That should be one sweet set up! I bet she will leap out of the hole, and scream! Let us know how she performs!

If you went with the E-Tec change your mind quick on the gauges and go with the I-Command. I suggest the digital which in a single gauge will tell you everything you ever want to know about your engine.

Thanks for the input kamie, but I asked about those guages and the dealer I am buying from said the I-Command guages are very expensive. He thought they were way overpriced.
I will ask again today because I need to run over there anyway.

I admit they aren't cheap but the I-Command digital 3 inch gauge is $270 but you only need 1. If you add the water pressure sensor kit which is $182 you have everything you ever want to know about your engine in a single 3 inch gauge. I may just be a technology person but getting a single readout where I get PSI, Trim, % Throttle, engine hours, fuel flow and RPMs or any other combination that I want is great.
I plan on adding the additional EMM memory module as soon as either the company making them finishes the NMEA183 to NMEA 2000 converter or I breakdown and purchase a new GPS with NMEA 2000 connectivity and I can do all my fuel management from the same 3 inch gauge.
Besides, if you went with the new E-Tec you have already committed to the boat for several years or you won't make your money back. Why not go all the way.
Ask the dealer if he has ever installed the new I-Command digital gauges, my guess is he has not and is not familiar with how easy they are to install or what info you get from them.

Congrat's, I think you made the right decision and am looking forward to hearing your impressions of the new set up. I think you're going to feel like you have a brand new boat as your old engine sounded just like mine... tired.

Did you buy the 2008 model? or the 2007 ????
I am curious about the Saltwater version...
I have been doing a little research and no longer see any Freshwater models available on the BRP website. It appears they no longer sell the Freshwater version for 2008.... only the Saltwater version is available. You can still get some models in either the blue color or the white color but they are all Saltwater models... I think this is a good thing and one less thing for BRP to produce.
Like we discussed in another thread, BRP is most likely going to have one line of engines soon, the E-Tec... and now, the E-Tec Saltwater version. They probably won't even call it the Saltwater version as there would be no need.
Keep us updated on your progress....

We have our first member that I know of that has the new BRP (Buck Rogers style) single binnacle.

Joe,
the Blue engines are freshwater and white are salt. There aren't many differences between the two but there are some. I just checked and the website still shows both for the 175HP although the blue are only available in 20inch shaft. Where are you seeing that the two versions will become a single version with color options?

Kamie, I am a technology person too. But, I do trust my dealer.
I will certainly check into it again. I personaly like the Clasic Command guages. But the Tech Series is nice too.
Joe, I don't think that control is the Buck Roger's style. But I will check on that too.
My engine is the 2007. I am quite sure there is very little differance between 2007 and 2008. Except the price. They wanted $3000 more for the 2008.

BRP used to list the Freshwater and Saltwater versions... Yes, the blue was the Freshwater version.
If you look on their site you will no longer see the statement of Freshwater.... or Saltwater...
I used to see that "Saltwater" was shown on the models.... or "Freshwater".... There is no mention of this any longer that I can find.
They still have both colors in some models but do not list them as Fresh or Saltwater models.
I wish BRP would give us a little more news... Unless I just missed the news....

I'm not exactly sure how I would go for the gauges seeing how I already have the Tech Series myself....

I guess I am not getting my point across...
Go to the BRP Evinrude page and look at all the motors...
When looking at the 90hp, they used to say 90hp Saltwater model, and the other was the 90hp Freshwater model.... They no longer say this..... You don't have a choice like you used to have...
Also see this ad on eBay from an engine dealer. They state,
New for 2008, all Evinrudes blue or white are now saltwater series engines

It appears to me that all E-Tecs are now Saltwater series but BRP sure isn't telling us much.
Also, which series of I-Command gauges did you buy?
The Classic or the Digital series?
And which particular gauges? The Tach and the Speedo? Anything else?

I don't remember the website specifying salt or fresh. As I said the white have the saltwater tag on them but even the 2007 brochure says you can use white or blue in saltwater. I have an email out to see what I can find out about 2008.
I went with the I-Command Digital gauges. With the Digital you don't get a Tach or speedo you just get a 3 inch gauge or a 2 inch. I believe you have to have at least a single 3 inch gauge, anything after that is optional. I actually got 2 of the 3 inch gauges. If you look at the photo of my console, the one on top always shows the Tach, the bottom one I have setup as a quad display with water pressure, % throttle, engine temp and hours, I have a second quad screen that I can flip too that has water pressure, engine temp, % throttle and trim or fuel flow I think but next time I am at the boat I will look. With the 2 inch gauge I believe your limited to a dual display
If I were to do it again, I would probably get a single 3 inch gauge as two are really overkill. I did get the water pressure connection which is nice so I get PSI information delivered to the gauges and don't have to look at the engine. That is a simple install, you screw the measuring part into the block and then plug the connector into the EMM.
I added a photo of one of the gauges to my personal page. Next weekend I will try to get a photo of some real information on them.
here is an image of the digital gauges and the two ways they can display infomation. No matter which way you want to see it, it's the same gauge
