Well, finally did the deed. After 9 months of searching, many questions and forwarded pictures, not to mention Del Dans efforts to look at a boat for me long distance, i finally made a selection from 4 potential duf purchases and departed last friday for Fla. I traveled from Corpus Chrisit Tx and arrived Lillian Ala at some friends house to overnight and depart early Sat for my first appointment in Panama City Fla. There i met with the owner Jim, and checked out his 22 outrage. Was a very nice boat, well cared for with an older 91 Evenrude 225, and a gal trailer. I departed there heading to Ft Myers Fla when i received a phone call from a boat that had just come up on boattraders.com in Ormondo beach fla north of Daytona. After talking to the owner, i alt course and continued east to check out his boat. Was also a great looking boat with an 06 225 E-Tic evenrude, with an 06 and not 05 aluminum trailer as was listed, 87 outrage same owner for the last 19 years. After checking his boat out (Raggedy Ann) i wanted to pull the trigger right there and then but really wanted to check out the boat in Myers with the WD before i did, especially after coming this far. I asked him to hold the boat for me for 24 hours, and i departed for Ft Myers late Sat evening. I overnighted east of Orlando, and proceeded to Ft Myers Sun morning arrving close to noon. It also was a very clean 91 outrage with WD and a super leaning post. It had twin 150 yams, and unfortunately, when we took her for a test spin, one was not up to snuff. Regardless, the 22,900 price tag and no trailer, with 91 motors was way overpriced and left the table of consideration. I had one more to look at in Fla, but i scratched that one as the owner wasn't in town, he had informed me the prior week, that the motor was toast, and i had seen all i needed to see! So off i went back across fla to Steward to visit some family, then N to Daytona to spend Sunday evening after a call to the owner that he had sold a boat. Was with the owner early monday morning to do the transfer, and was headed back to Lillian Ala, boat in tow monday afternoon. Arrived late monday, crashed, was up tues morning, back for a nap tues afternoon, and departed for Texas 5 pm tuesday evening arrving safe, sound and plus a new member of the family 9 am weds morning after a very interesting trip through 3 other states in the middle of their monsoon season. Wasn't sure a few times if i was going to tow the boat, or was going to let the boat tow my truck.
So, Raggedy Ann now sits in my drive way awaiting transfer to my boat lift once i ensure it will take the weight of that 06 225 E-tic and the bigger boat then the 21 foot Skeeter bay pro with a 150 yam with was my last boat.
Soon as i figure out how to do it, will add link to some pictures of the boat, in the meantime its on boattrader.com.
Was a hell of an adventure, a drive of 3,200 miles and a pleasure to meet other Whalers and a great way to spend a vacation!!

Great....now you own a classic whaler. Post some pics of Raggedy Ann in the Lone Star state. I guess that after all the interstate travel and long, short journey you feel tired but very happy. Let us know about the performance of the 225 E-Tec....

Congratulations... I saw that boat on Boat Trader Online and was wishing it was closer to California.
Looking forward to seeing more photos when you get a chance. I like the Super Console.

Duf,
Welcome to the 22 Outrage club! Trust me that boat is going to give you lots of good times. And that E-Tec sure is a nice thing to have. From the images I have seen it looks like with a good wet sand and polish and some teak refinishing it will be a strong looking boat.
Seeing how the best price locally here to buy a 225 E-Tec and have it rigged is $17,000 plus a newer trailer you basically got a hull for next to nothing.

Thanks All. Appreciate the congrats and i feel after your comments i got a good deal on Raggedy Ann. Will have my work cut out as underneath the console is a wiring nightmare with nothing secure and numerous dead ends, and more or less looks like crap. Bow lights don't work (wiring again) and as Jeff said, needs a good wet sanding and a good buff polish. I plan on removing all the teak and re-finishing it, and will be tapping into Whaler Centrals huge resourses to look up the how to's to do most of the work myself, especially the downloads on the electrical systems. My goal is to have Raggedy Ann up and looking perky by spring.
We started off on the wrong foot this morning as the leaning post has been installed for 19 years and i'm wanting to install the original swival seats for a cruise sunday. The bolts of course are frozen, and i snapped one (flush naturally)trying to remove it. So, here we go, drill and tap time....... sigh.
I will give a full report on the performance of the 225 E-Tic as requested and after i run it some, will be looking for advice on what kind of stainless prop is recommended for optimum performance. Right now it has an aluminum prop.
Gotta love boats...........

It looks like someone put a 2 7/8" inch post over the original 2 1/2" post for the original Wise seats.
All you should have to do is remove the leaning post and the 2 7/8" post that they installed over the original posts... Then put the Wise seats back on....
It also looks like everything else is original except for a couple of things.
1. Under Gunwale rod holders not original
2. Leaning post not original (but you have the original swivel seats)

Yup, thats the swivel seats i have, and like new too. I have another Whaler central member that contacted me to look at a boat not to far from here. I'm heading that way tomorrow to check it out for him. When you locate one Joe, just let me know and i'll ease on up and check her out for you. I know your wanting a 22 and i'll help all i can!

Not just a 22' though....
1. 1986, 1987, 1988
2. Super Console
3. No bottom paint (ever)
4. Must be original and no parts missing or butchered up that you can't get anymore.
Basically just like the Outrage 22' you just bought.
Lucky for you, the only original thing missing is the under gunwale rod holders and you can make those if you choose to....
I sold my 22' Cuddy last year because I didn't need the Cuddy. Otherwise, it was a great boat.
One will come along.. I just missed another one in Michigan last month... Too far again...
I beginning to think there aren't anymore 22's on the West Coast....

Duff,
Congatulations. It looks like you did really well. I would love to have a Super Console on my 22. The t-top I have is wide enough for a Super Console. If I could find a Super Console I would buy it.
I like the full splash well dam I have on my boat (1989 model), but I also like the fact that you have a drain at the lowest point on the boat. My drains are in the port and starboard aft sumps. The fishwell does not drain. The pump is the only way to empty the fishwell, and it does not pump totally dry.
The 225 Etec is my dream motor! I would like to hear more about how your boat performs with the 225 once you get her dialed in.
Keep us informed as to your progress.

Got the menu Joe and will keep my eyes open for one as you discribed. As you said, they come along and you just have to be ready, or have someone nearby to be able to check it out and forward the photo's, as they don't last long.
Dougv, will forward the results of the test runs, danm i can't wait for Sunday!! and like i said, if anyone has some suggestions of a E-Tic with a stainless prop, by all means pip up and give me some stats. Otherwise (luckily) i have a buddy who is a fishing pro and has access to various props and we'll do the test and change method.

Dont get rid of your leaning post. I think you will find that the pedestal seats are useless on a 22. Maybe a RPS will work OK but the pedastals are are a pain in the ass. I had a RPS on an 18 OR and it worked pretty well but I dont know if they will work as well on a 22. I just installed a leaning post on my 22 a cople months ago and it is much better than the pedestals. I have scars on the back of my legs from them damn pos rodholder things. The leaning post frees up a lot of room for fishing and crabbing. Now I bring aluminum chairs if I need to sit while fishing which isnt too often.

Again thanks all for the additional comments! And no, will not be losing the leaning post. Just trying out the swivel seats, but have a feeling i'll be going back to the leaning post.
Anyhow........ took Raggedy out Sunday and what a hoot. The boat rode like a dream, cut through waves like a knife, and was almost instantly on plane. Literally, it leaped out of the water, and i'm guessing in no more then 3 sec's (now i didn't time it) i was on plane and firing down the waterways. Just for giggles, i took it out through Packery Channel, the opening off Padre Island to the Gulf to see how it would handle the waves. Due to the channel running out, and the wind pushing in, their were easily 5 to 6 foot waves, well above my railings..........well above. Raggedy rode them easily and the only water i got in the boat was my weak and lubberly attempt to turn and get back through the pass.............ok, i allowed a 6 footer to hit us broadside. But she shook it off and we surfed back through the pass and on to a calmer area to party with friends. I had numerous comments on Raggedy, and am now convinced i got a hell of a deal. I'm really looking forward to redoing all the teak and making her shine like many of your boats. Labor of love, and will enjoy every minute. Later i will be dialing in a new stainless prop, as my RPM's are way lower then they should be 5100 vrs normal operating of 6200 - 6500 so i'm starting from the ground up figuring out exactly how to tune her in. In the meantime, again, appreciate the comments and could not do with out the huge library of information the administaters, and other participants have accumulated. You guys rock!
