Does anybody know if there is an annual rendezvous on the Chesapeake. I have always wanted to participate in one!

Typically the local Whaler dealership has some type of event at the Kent narrows every year. They should have the dates in their website.

Chesapeake Whalertowne usually has their event in June or July, however I don’t believe that they had one last year. Their event calendar doesn’t have anything posted yet for this year – always a great time though.

It definitely seems like it would be a blast to run the bay with a bunch of Whalers!

I just spoke with Chesapeake WhalerTowne. It will be a couple of weeks or so before they'll know whether or not they'll be putting-on-the-Ritz. And if the they did, it would likely be scheduled for late summer.

Wow! Very cool George. Thanks for going the extra mile and looking into it. So I guess for now we wait and see!!! Or perhaps we go rogue on the whole thing.

I may be taking a trip up & around the Rappahannock Memorial weekend. Still working on the details but considering somewhere in the upper half one day (above Tappahannock) and Corrotoman River (which is a tributary in the lower portion) for a sceond day.

If you haven't downloaded it, google "A Boaters Guide to the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail" for incredible info on trips all over the Chesapeake.

I hope this comes together - it would be a nice Chesapeake event.

We just need a cruising plan and a date. We could launch out of sandy point state park right under the bay bridge. Plenty of parking and nice backwater to get everyone launched. Camping available for those who might want to make an overnight / weekend trip. We just need to pick a route, destination and time.

Launch everyone between 9:00 am - 9:30am, pick an AM destination, pick a dining location or picnic beach, PM destination and wrap up in the afternoon or evening.

Any suggesions?

From Sandy Point, Kent Narrows is a relatively quick hop around Kent Island. Plenty of restaurants in the area (this is where Whalertowne has their event). On the western side of Kent Island there is Kentmorr Marina – great food and they now have a beach/tiki bar area.

On the western side of the Bay, there is always Annapolis, but docking may be an issue. Dobbins Island (just North of Sandy Point in the Magothy) is a popular place for raft-ups/rendezvous. My family and I always enjoy anchoring up in the Severn River, but I will defer to any members who “know” the western side better than I do for suggestions.

South of Annapolis there is the South River, West River, Rhode River - Edgewater, Galesville, and Annapolis all have restaurants and within reach if you want to cross the bay from Kent Narrows to the west side (and are pretty well protected if the wind comes up).

Annapolis can get pretty busy in the summer and dockage is limited.

Chesapeake Whalertowne WILL be holding their Customer Appreciation event this year (2012). The date is still unknown though they mentioned late summer when I spoke to them in back in April. It should show up on their website at some point.

Regardless, i'd be up for a WC planned event.

I really hope this becomes an event this year. I’ve been with a sick loved one for the past two summers and haven’t been able to attend.

FYI. Launching from a public boat ramp on the eastern shore requires a county launching permit. Not sure of the cost these days, but for nonresidents it’s more. This is not the case for private ramps. If details are posted please state the launching facilities.

Thanks, Don.

When I researched info last year on the Miles, Wye & Tred Avon trips, I used talbotparksandrec.com which is the site for Talbot County Maryland. I just looked on it & the 2012 fee is $40.

NJjohnmontauk17 is right - most MD county sites cost $ altho I think $40 is pretty hi for a single launch. Maybe if Whalertowne sponsors they will know of a less outrageous cost.
I plan to get the Nauset in the water this week end. Yippee

Assuming the event is at the Narrows again….here is the list of “local” boat ramps and rates (from 2011) - http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/boating/kentislandinset.asp -http://www.parksnrec.org/images/stories/landings_piers/landings/2011landingsguide.pdf

If launching from Kent Narrows there is not much of a boat ride to the event. Launching from Shipping Creek and running up Eastern Bay is always a nice run and generally protected from the wind.

Day launch passes are available at a reduced cost. For Queen Anne county (Kent Narrows) a day pass cost $10 for Md residents, county land owner or MD registered boat. $15 for non-residents. Cost varies by county.

My first run of 2012 was back in the first week of January. More importantly, it was just my nephew and me and his grandfathers' Montauk.

My comment of $40 for Talbot County is for the entire year of 2012, i.e. for $40 you get a 2012 sticker for the trailer, for any talbot public ramp in their brochure.
