Howdy all,
I picked up a 1996 15' Whaler Rage with bad OMC 115 over the winter ($1,000 with trailer) intending to install a bracket and outboard.

sraab928 has been very helpful, including the idea of using heat to remove the drive unit, which worked VERY well. I ended up placing a couple propane torches in the water mouth of the unit, which heated the whole thing fairly evenly. Removed it a coupld hours ago.

A fellow who makes brackets is working on one right now for a 15' Rage, he can make a duplicate for me, all aluminum and will provide some flotation, setup for a 20" shaft engine.

Next step is go glass in the hole. Will keep thread updated.

John:

Looking forward to watching your progress. What are you going to hang on the back?

115 Mercury.

The goal is to have a fairly quick boat for calm conditions.

115 may sound like a lot, but It's a 1,200 lb, 15' boat. 17' Whalers at 900 lbs are rated for 100 HP engines.

I always said if I did another one it would have been a 115 for power - So go for it, it should be a blast!

If you follow CFR 33 Part 183 You get 107 hp as the max which is pretty darn close.
