Sue Lodel at Twin Cities Marine has informed us that the larger 1 1/2" + drain plugs that Whaler used to offer have now become available again. Back in 2003 or 2004 Whaler discontinued these and she has had them reproduced.
There is a "nook" style shown in the first photo which is also available from Whaler still today.
"Anyway, a number of people are tired of the water that is able to flow in and out of the scuppers on a number of the newer boats, so this is certainly one way for people to successfully keep the cockpit area dry:)"
