I went to go change the lower unit lube in my Honda 225 and the upper screw (large phillips) won't come loose. I haven't even tried the lower one yet. Any suggestions are breaking these free? Thanks!

An impact screwdriver, the type you hit with a hammer. Got mine at sears.

Sometimes threaded fasteners can be turned in the tighten direction just a bit and breaks them loose. Also on phillips heads you can put some valve grinding compound on the bit to get a better grip. As said impact driver is a handy tool to use.

An impact screw driver is a lifesaver. The only one I ever had was given to me when I was 17 by my local Johnson dealer (Bill Hartig) as a thank you for helping him around his shop. As I remember it was one of his main tools. Back in the fifties outboards were held together by many more screws than modern ones, but only slotted ones, no phillips. Phillips are scary, the groves can be easily rounded out. Bill used heat many times removing corroded screws with his impact driver. Just go easy with it, lite taps will tell you how bad its stuck.
