I was out yesterday, and my power tilt/trim stopped working. I jiggled some wires around and managed to intermittantly get it to tilt back down. So I thought I knew the problem as I was jiggling this 1 wire that the previous owner had spliced together using some wired clip type thing. But then when I got back to the ramp and went to trim it back up, it was dead. Jiggled and wiggled all the wires, and even removed the half*ssed clip and then splyced the wire back together thinking it was a bad connection..... No love. So yea, basically wondering what the dif wires do. Seems like a bad ground or power, but would like to know what the dif wires do for troubleshooting purposes.
You could check the relays but I would look more into the connections since you have a bad splice there, then go deeper if need be. Relays on that motor should be on the back of the block and you will hear them clicking when you activate the switch.
Is it a 3 wire setup??
PS, I think we were anchored next to you on the mussle bed last week, Parker 2530.
Could be a wire problem, might be a relay problem. But before you do too much try using a small plastic hammer or even the handle of larger screwdriver to tap the tilt motor itself. Tilt motors can develop little dead spots. Tapping can loosen things up and bring the motor back to life. If it works run the motor up and down a few times and your troubles might be over.
oh yea! thats crazy! small world. i went back there on tuesday and didn't get touched. how did you guys end up doing?
far as the system is concerned there are 3 wires going to the switch but then another 2 to the guage (that doesn;t work), yet it was those wires i was jiggling when i got it to work... odd.
brooks, I thought i might have been hearing the relays click but wasn't sure if it was just the crabs in the bucket crawling over and around eachother... i'll have to do some diagnostics after the holiday. its just a 3 way switch right? power to it and then either up or down gets the juice when its triped 1 way or the other?
