If you see your depth is shoaling rapidly, you know you may be approaching the beach or an obstruction. It is very important that your depth sounder works at ALL SPEEDS.

Even in the river, it's nice to know when i hit one side of the channel I struggle with my transducer holding the bottom at speed, so I will move it on the transom in the spring.
