Well I just spent 4 and 1/2 hours working on the tear down. Felt like crying, like I was desacrating something sacred. I kept looking back and kept remembering how much confidence having two motors gives you. Weird. I also realized how much goes into putting a whaler with twins together, which explains why they are so sought after.
Tons of pricy parts,tachometers(2),ride level gauges(2),voltmeters(2),ignition sswitches(2),hour meters(2),2 control boxes for tthe gauges,704 dual control binnacle,4 control cables2 engine harnesses,2 engine power cables,2motors,2 ss props, steeirng tie rod,etc...If I had removed everything before I posted the 4 sale,I would have asked $5000! Its simply amazing how much stuff there is.
I will miss the twins!
Anyone have any ideas to fill all the holes in my console?

thanks,Jerry

Make cardboard templates of instrument panels and other pieces. Indicate screw locations. Then get 1/8 aluminum pieces made, and paint black. For binnacle hole, use a piece of teak. Reuse screw holes. Even if you don't repower, it will make the boat more presentable to buyers. Some people on this site or CW might even have leftover used instrument panels.

For motor mount holes make wooden plugs, epoxy, and gelcoat. I'm sure others will have better ways to do this. Do a search on this. Good luck with repower or sale. Sorry to hear about all this.

I decided to go this route on my console....

This is just a mock up - We are still in gelcoat phase right now.

I'd have stuck with the twins. Engine problems are a risk with any year, and there's nothing like the security of an extra engine.

I'm doing something similar to Scott, using mahogany as a replacement for the old backing plates. Take a look at Guts' personal page to see how he did it:

Jerry -

While I may be too late, you realize that the original blank gauge panels are available from any Whaler dealer. Another option is to get aluminum, cut to size and paint.

I replaced my panels when I did my re-wire on my Outrage 17. Take a look at my personal page.

Phil T-u r not 2 late! I was not aware they were still available, thats good news! Not sure which route Ill go,teak or mahogney( more maintence) or aluminum? For now Ill use those black blanks to cover the gauge holes,Ill make it pretty over the off season!
Thanks for the input,Jerry.
