I'm a first time boat buyer. I have it down to two boats, first is a 99 in very good condition with 200 HP Optimax w/ 250 hrs; second is 03 in excellent condition with 200 HP Optimax w/ 480 hrs. The 03 has some upgrades on electronics and the comfort package. Asking on the 99 is 26K and 32K for the 03. For the price differential i'm really struggling with the 99 or the 03? Given higher hrs on the 03 should i go wit the 99? As a novice all advice is appreciated.
If it was my first boat, I would get a smaller one and learn the ropes on it first, or spend less money on one to make sure it was my cup of tea. If you have been around boats and the water and know your stuff, I don't think you can go wrong with either boat.
Personally, a 210 is a decent size for the New England coast.
I would go with the 03. A engine that sits does not typically last as long as one that is used frequently.
As for price, it is a buyer's market. Do national research on Boattrader, Yachtworld, etc to get prices.
Get the boat surveyed and the engine history from a certified Mercury technician before spending this amount of money. Do a sea trial on a crummy day to ensure the ride and size of the boat is to your liking.
