Sump/ bilge pump on 18

Hello,
I need help for choosing right solution for my 18 Outrage.
I use it in every 1 or 2 weeks in saltwater and it stays all the rest of time on the dock on a river 3 miles from the sea ( about half and half salt / fresh water).
I live 200 miles from it so I have to leave the sump unplugged in case of rain , and also to shower the boat with freshwater, so my sump is always full of water.
Is this not good? , have I to drain and then plug the sump? in this case I need a bilge pump and where is the best position to puy it?

Another things I have only one sump on the right of the boat with a wooden cover.

You could install a small "Rule" 500 gph bilge pump with an "In-line" waterproof fuse to a "Float switch", wired directly to the battery. Any water get's in, and she'll "Automatically" pump it out. There will always be "some" water in the sump pit. I use this set up on my "Docked" open boat, and it work's well, no shortage of "Rain" here, we had almost 2" yesterday, I checked the boat, "DRY", engine fired right up.

you have two options,
1. leave the plug out and let the boat self bail. That way you don't need to worry about it.
Although it sounds like you leave the plug in while running as well, so you can go with a Rule pump.
I suggest the Rule 1100GPH in the sump. Use the one with the internal float switch, much less parts than a separate float switch. You can either wire to the battery and use an inline fuse or wire to a switch on your console. I prefer to wire to a switch that way I can totally cut power without having to take apart the battery connection.
if you leave the boat for any length of time, you might consider a solar charger to keep the battery topped off.

Thanks for answers.
I can do like option n° 1 of Kamie ( that is what now I do) if to have ever water in the sump and under floor isn' t a problem for the boat.
I was afraid that some water could penetrate inside the boat or around the tank in the foam.
It is right to have only one sump on the right ?

In your case, I would leave the drain plug out. The little bit of water in the sump won't hurt anything. If the battery or bilge pump fail, the boat will fill with water which would be far worse because then it will get the fuel tank and deck wet.

A mooring cover will prevent most of the water from entering, and keep it clean.
