I am finally close to finishing my complete makeover of my 1965 Nauset. I have two questions for other Nauset/Eastport type owners.
I have glued an original white rubrail back on the boat. The two pigtail end pieces that wrap around the transom are my final issue.
1. I forgot to measure how far in from the edge the little screw is set. Can someone check on their original boat and tell me how far from the outside edge the center of the screw goes?
2. The two little screws are short stubby machine screws, not wood screws. I was wondering if anyone had any idea why they used these? My logic would say to replace with a wood screw. But I bet someone here knows the answer.
PS: I used 4000 to glue it down, it's holding really well. I tried 5 different glues on a sample before choosing this. 5200 became too hard and did not adhere to the rubrail once dry. I tried all the caulks mentioned on the board, marine goop, auto adhesive, even two part epoxy which held but was like a rock when dry.
