I know I've seen this before on the discussions but cant find it when I want it...
Where can I find a mold for the original whaler deck pattern? for imprinting gel-coat or after re-polyester coating of surface?
Does anyone have a used piece of the mold they want to sell?
After filling all these holes and cracks etc on the deck I'm thinking best thing is to just grind off the old deck gel coat and start fresh...
good idea? or to much work?
thanks,
john

Call Gibco Flex Mold and ask for their whaler samples. The have 3 patterns for Whalers but they don't fit the 18 Outrages or the 13 footers, not sure about the 16/17 footers. Once you have determined if any fit your deck pattern, you can order them from a couple places on the web.
If none of the patterns fit you will need to make your own. If you want to go that route directly, let me know, i have the steps and the tools but have not done it myself as of yet.

I provided the info to another whaler owner back in March.
Go to masepoxies.com. They were highlighted on the tv show shipshapetv.
There are several patterns available. The 2 whaler ones number 327 and 332. You can view the patterns on line.

Wrangler,
the patterns are not made by Masepoxies, they use and sell Gibco Flex Mold patterns. Have you used #327 to fix your boat and did it line up with the existing non-skid?

One thing I never understood. I always thought the actual non skid pattern was part of the female mold, and the boat was laid up in the usual way, and the non skid became part of the fiberglass floor. If you sand the floor smooth, how can you reproduce a nonskid floor with only gel coat. Maybe a few isolated filled screw holes, but a whole floor? Can someone clue me in?

It is part of the mold originally, but in the mold the gelcoat goes down first, then the glass is laid on top. Once that is done the two halves of the mold are clamped together and foam goes in. How else would you end up with the gelcoat on the outside?

thanks for the replies...Yes I did eventually find the postings from march with this info thanks...
I am going to make my own mold with ReoFlex 50 from Smooth-on.com...ordered the sample size which will be enough for my needs.
So it looks like from the info here that I should in-fact stamp the polyester-resin fillet to create the pattern and then spray a gel coat layer on the entire thing to get the color and coating correct?
thanks
