Original poster here again, your comments and insight were very valuable as I passed on the 1985 for 8,500 and found a 1981 with a Johnson 90hp (original 1981 motor) for $4500. I'm driving down to CA this next weekend to pick it up. Hull is in great shape. Feel much better about this deal. Thanks again. Great to know there is such a helpful group when I will have questions about how to fix a 1985 Johnson 90.
