Looking for comments on how to repair this. Its all the way thru to the foam. Would you sand out about a 1\4" deep valley maybe 5-6 inches wide, then fill with fiberglass paste and feather out?

You nailed it, that's exactly what I would do.

I'd use the West systems epoxy resin 105 and the hardener 205 or 206. Once you apply the fiberglass matting and it dries, use the epoxy and hardener and mix some cabisol in it too to make a paste and fill in and build up where needed.

Wow, I'd find out the cause of that first to keep it from happening again after you get it all repaired.... Any idea?

In order to provide structural integrity (and avoid recurrence) you will definitely need some roving and/or cloth. In (the very distant) past I have found the factory to be very helpful regarding advice on layup schedules (how many layers, size, etc) for repairs like this.

I agree that West system is the way to go. I am doing gouges and cracks on my own 13'3" right now with West system thickened as needed with their filler powder (207 I believe).

Best of luck.

Thanks for the replys! Regarding the cause, it was on the ground with construction scrap piled on top of it when I found it. I think the weight caused the crack and others. Supposed to be a 1962 but the serial number been sanded off or glassed over, I can't find it.

Good, glad there wasn't water in there that froze and caused the crack as the wet foam would have to be addressed before a successful repair could be done.
