I have a newer Garmin 398 and for some reason I never can get both the Sonar and GPS to work at the same time. Yesterday the GPS worked great for half the day and then all of a sudden it wouldn't track up, even after powering up several times. After the GPS quit I had Sonar finally working even at high speed. Any suggestions?
Could it be that I do not have enough power to the unit to keep both going? I have noticed my engine cranking over is a little slower than usual. TIme for a new battery?
If the unit is not powering up or is turning itself on and off then it sounds like a power connection problem. Either you don't have a solid connection or there is not enough voltage going to the unit. Put a meter on the power cord going into the unit and see what you have. It should be at least 12 volts and probably a little more. You may need to run a wire directly from the battery or the fuse block so you will have a dedicated power source to that unit.
