I bought a heavy-duty commercial type 3/4 round rub rail for my early 70's vintage 13'3". I plan to glue and screw to gunwhale edge. Part of the bow has undergone repairs by prior owner. I would like suggestions on what size/type of screws would be best suited. I would probably use ~1 inch self tapping with finish washers through pre-drilled holes. I do not know what is 'underneath' the fiberglass of the hull-deck joint. Lastly, if possible I'd like to leave the bow light wires that run inside the boat intact.

Many thanks for any insight.
