I purchased a running lightless 13' sport last summer. Want to add lights. It appears that there is a red wire and two gray wires running through the hull from the bow light position to the rear light position. Is there anything I need to know about these wires or just test them out and use whats available?

Also (and I understand this may turn some true whaler aficionados into knots) I am planning on using an Atwood rear light that is recessed into the fiberglass. If anyone knows the direction of the wires from the rear that would be a great help. Do the go starboard port or straight down the keel? I am planning on using my roto drill to open up the hol for the recessed light plug to try and avoid cutting the wires

You are correct on the path of the bow light wire. If it fails the voltage test you can do what everyone else does, run the wire up through the rubrail (search will give you many articles).

As for the Rotozip, stop...put down the tool and s...l..o..w..l..y step away. I, nor other most owners, would not recommend recessing the pole base into the foam since you are breaking the skin. The achilles heel of fiberglass boats, especially those with foam filled cavities, is water intrusion.

If you don't want to search for a set of OEM stand off brackets (see parts pages) there are many alternative arrangements.

One quick idea is buy two rail stand-off brackets from Specialty Marine like thisand fit a standard Perko pole with exposed wires (PKO 1311 DP 3CHR) into it. To prevent the pole from sliding, drill the brackets and insert a set screw.
