I recently bought a 23' Outrage that came with two batteries on board; one cranking battery and one trolling battery. It appears that the way my boat is wired the bilge pump only runs off of one of the batteries (when the battery selector switch is in the off position). It looks as though the previous owner had the cranking battery running the bilge pump. Shouldn't I be using the trolling battery instead?
I would use the second deep cycle battery for all house items including the bilge.
The bilge pump usually goes directly to any battery with an inline fuse.
This way when you turn the battery switch OFF (if a person has one) the bilge will still work.
