I'm new to this forum and I have a question for others who may have done this. I have an 84 SS 17' Hull that all of the wood has been removed. I purchased a console for it that came out of a Carolina Skiff. The problem is that my hydraulic steering hose isn't long enough to reach up to the new mounting point. Is there some type of extension that I can buy or possibly another easy way of making this work; short of buying and running a completely new hose?
You should have 2 hydraulic hoses from the hydraulic steering helm. Correct?
I don't see any reason why you couldn't go to a professional hose maker and buy a couple of extensions. Even some Auto Parts stores have the capability to make hydraulic hoses with the correct fittings for the application.
If you hydraulic hoses have any age to them, I would suggest just buying 2 new ones the correct length and be done with it.
Thanks for the responses. This is my solution......aka the easiest way for me. I basically just cut the height difference off of the bottom of the console to lower it. It actually turned out really well. The console came with a custom aluminum tank so I just cut it down as far as I could go and still clear the tank. It is nearly perfect and most of it is due to pure luck!
Some more food for thought is that this is possibly not hydraulic, the hose is hard plastic and may be housing a cable of some sort, I just don't know enough about whalers or boats in general, for that matter, yet to know. There are two lines but one is seemingly just a vent that goes to nothing. The plastic 'hoses' are coming out of a gear drive or ,if hydraulic, a vane pump?
