13' Whaler gunnal rail repair

I am restoring a 1964 (+-) 13' Whaler. When I removed the rub rail there were two sections about 3' long that has rotted on each side. Has anyone restored this portion of there boat? It looks like the previous owners installed wood at these locations. Looking on the whaler site it doent show wood in these location. So is some type of form use to create the gunnal rail and the finger grip at the under side the gunnal rail? It has a slight angle. Thanks, Bob
