I am looking to get a fishfinder for my Outrage. I fish in Long Island sound and would like to keep it in the 4-5 hundred dollar range. Is that reasonable? If so, what do you guys suggest. I already have a Garmin 192c that I use for my GPS. So I dont need a combo unit.
Thanks,
John

I used to work the patrol boat for "Flower's Oyster co." in "Oyster Bay", we always used "Hummingbird's", not sure which model. They always worked well, I'm a "South Shore boy" (sandy bottom) so those huge boulder's in L.I. sound always made me nervous.

Since you don't need a finder with integrated gps, you should be able to find several in the price range you indicated. You probably won't get the dual sonar that some like, but you should be able to get a big color screen in a unit that functions well. I suggest going to a sporting goods store that has different brands on display so that you can find a unit that is asthetically pleasing to you. I just boought a Humminbird, but someone else with the same needs may well choose a different brand. Good luck!

check ,boatbandit.com and you could just go by west marine to see the units and theyll usually match the price, good luck

Hi Cliff. I bought the Humminbird 788ci from Bass Pro Shops. It is a new model and runs $649 including the transducer. I checked a few other places and the prices were the same. (This all took place about a month ago.) I plan on installing it within the week and will soon be able to give you a report as to functionality. Big screen, expandable memory, integrated gps, etc. Let me know if I can help further.

Just ordered the Raymarine DS600x from Bethel Marine. I paid 325. From what I read this sounds like a decent unit at a good price. Thanks for everyones help.
