I'm installing a volt gauge today, should it have an "in-line" fuse for circuit protection ?
Thank's !

It's wired to the "Purple" ignition wire, so it's key "ON" activated.

Not necessary. It's just like the rest of the gauges.

I put insulated male wire connectors on the volt gauge + and - wires, female insulated wire connectors on the purple wire, and and black ground of ignition wire for a quick disconnect when needed. I now have at least one gauge on my boat to show if my charging system is working and battery condition. Thank's to all who helped me, and to Joe K. for the article on "W/C", I followed the advice/ instructions and had a "FUN" (for once) Sunday project in the driveway, I even left room for another gauge (my confidence is now high, so I'm gettin brave). The Volt gauge look's and work's GREAT !
What gauge should I do next, "Engine temp.", "Pump Pressure" ? and what is the "grey" wire for on the ignition harness (was with the purple and black wire of ignition harness)

Wire colors for the tachometer.

1. Purple = key switch ON power
2. Black = negative
3. Gray = pulse from motor

4. Blue = Optional, back light, from light switch

If you don't have a tach. A tach is always a nice feature especially when setting up the correct prop for the boat.

Glad the voltmeter is working out for you.

If I were to add a "Tach", would I just jump the wires (purple & Black) from the volt meter to the tach, or splice into the "Purple" and "Black" wires since I already used them for the volt Gauge ?
