On a 1983 Outrage 18 is it possible to pass a wire to the rigging tunnel where the wires enter the console from the port side? If not, how do people run wires there? Drill a hole under the console? I hate drilling holes in my boat!
Thanks, Jerry

Jerry,
It can be done without drilling any holes. You will need to remove the fuel fill access panel on the side but once that is done, just fish a coat hanger, fish-tape or other device under the floor from (or to) the rigging tunnel.
It is easiest to unscrew the console from the floor and tip it forward so you can really get to the rigging tunnel, but it not absolutely necessary.
I remember doing this on my 1983 Outrage 18 when I installed my antennas on my gunwales and ran the coax across this space. I did not remove the console.

You do not need to drill anything, the easy way is to remove the port side access panel and the cover to your gas gauge. Now fish a rope from the rigging tunnel under the console to the gas gauge and then go from the port side access to the gas gauge. I did take off both the access panel and the floor plate that covers the fill / vent hose. I did not loosen the console at all. The reason to do it in two passes is you may need to work around or over the fill and vent hoses. It is basically a straight shot from the port access to the gauge and fro the guage up to the opening for the rigging tunnel.

Tom,that was the first thing I tried to do,pass a wire across from the beckson plate/opening by the fuel gauge, but there is no access to the rigging tunnel. Its fully sealed from the port side. I unfortunately will have to drill a hole.I even tried passing a wire towards the stern then up the tunnel ,but it seemed easier to just drill the hole. Thanks for the input.

looking in the pics of other 18's there seems to be a wall on the port side of the rigging tunnel wich prevents accecc. Ill have to try again. Everytime I try a wire snake from the fuel gauge aera to the place where the wires enter the console,I hit what feels like a fiberglass wall. Im geting pissed and frustrated.

There is no wall. The fuel fill and vent lines run right thru there.
Remove both access panels on the port side and follow the fuel fill line.

Take your time, you need to work around and possibly up toward the bow a bit. Go from the console to the gauge, not the other way. I used an electricians fish, it's easier to move around. You can get it, it takes a little time. Depending on where the console is set, it may seem like a wall, if it does, move to the other end of the floor cut out under the console. By that I mean, if you are trying to fish from the end closest to the stern, move to the bow end of the opening. There is access from the rigging tunnel, into the tank cavity.

Jerry,
Take it easy. It is possible to do. I've done it myself on an identical hull. Kamie and Joe offer good advice.
Do we have a photo somewhere on WC of the 18's hull with the fuel tank cover pulled showing the under deck structure of this hull? It might be helpful to Jerry.

OK,done! The addage "a picture paints a thousand words" obviously applies here. I guess they placed the access channel towards the bow end of the opening in the deck to help prevent too much water from entering the tank compartment. As usual I couldnt have done without you guys! Thanks. Thanks!!!!!
