I don't have much room on my console, I was thinking of adding one small gauge (to make re-finishing the console that much harder), what 1 would be best ? I have a new "Volt meter" (in the box) which is listed as a "Must Have" item on the W/C gauge list, or would "Temp" be a better gauge choice ? would a "water pres." gauge show a stuck closed "Stat" (had that prob. already) or "Running hot" ? If you had to choose only 1 gauge, which 1 would it be ?
Thank's !
Matt..............I would go with the Water Pressue gauge......It has really given me peace of mind instead constantly turning around and looking at the tell tale pee stream...............It's relatively easy to install too! By the way, if you look on my pers page you'll see that I mounted a tach, trim and pressure gauge on mine............there's also a photo of the wiring under the consol............kind of crowded, but it works

When I wrote that article there weren't many other external electronics that gave you the voltmeter function.
If you do have something onboard that shows you whether or not your engine is charging, then of course you don't need a separate voltmeter.
It is still my opinion however, that it is very important to have a voltmeter onboard whether it is a separate gauge or one that is built into a GPS or Sounder etc...
Most engines have an overheat alarm or safety function.
If your engine starts getting hot, the alarm will sound or slow down or shut down the engine.
Even if your water pressure is low or no water pressure at all, your engine will get hot and the alarm should sound if its working properly.
That is why I said this type of gauge would be good if you have the room. If not, that safety function is already built into the engine so you don't burn it up.
