I ran across this chart that shows examples of what the water pressure gauge should be registering at different RPMs. Although it is aimed at ETECs I would imagine other motors would be comparable
The aftermarket sells water pressure gauges. I had one on my Johnson and now on the Yamaha.
It reads 20 psi at 4000 RPM, about 15psi at 3000 rpm.
At idle about 5psi. As it gets lower over time, that could be an indication that the water pump needs replacing or a clog. If you live in a cold area, do not forget to drain the water out this gauge and hose. Disconnect the hose and use a air can (same type to clean computer keyboards) and blow it out. I would never run an outboard without one.
