I have a 1980 Outrage v-20 that came with an aftermarket/homemade stern light. Its not too bad looking but its super tall. Does anyone have an original that they can send a photo of or at least measure from the gunwale up as to how high the original was? The light I have is over 6' tall and I want to cut it down to be as close to original as I can.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Chris

We have an article on how to fabricate a complete stern light located in the article section:
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...icle_id=23
You need to make sure you also have the Masthead light to be legal.
You can find OEM photos of both the Stern Light and the Masthead light in the OEM Parts Photo section:

Thanks for the info Joe...luckily I found the masthead light and it just needs rewiring. Good to know on the legality part. I am starting to wonder after looking at the article on fabricating one if I have actually have the original stern light. It just seems very tall for the boat.

The original for the Outrage series wasn't 6 feet tall.
Some Revenges had the longer stern lights like you describe because they didn't use or need to Masthead light.
Many people don't like the Masthead light so they use a longer stern light to be legal and don't bother using the Masthead light in that situation.

Don't cut that light just yet. When I bought my bought my boat, I was going to throw away the stern light that it came with because it was huge and looked like it was made in someone's garage. My neighbor convinced me to hold on to it just in case. I am glad I did. I have seen pictures of other Outrages with the same light. Mine is 78 inches long! You just may have an OEM piece.

The pictures of the Lo Pro Outrage show the same stern light that I have.

womms,
What year and model Whaler do you own?
The Lo-Profile was made in 1976.
coop,
I own both versions. One is from my 1985 Outrage (standard) and the other is from a Revenge (long).
I haven't measured it but I will tomorrow.

I have a 1977 21'4" Outrage. Sorry, I didn't realize my signature is missing. Ha. Let me fix that.

Womms, the photos of the low pro helped out. My light looks just like those. It looks like its original so I'll just polish it up and call it good. Thanks Joe for the info on the legality stuff too. This forum is great!!
Thanks again!!
