1968 17' hull jack plate installation splashwell issue
Not enough room in the splash well for standard (modern) bolt pattern of jack plate i.e. I have to drill 2 new holes in jack. What is the preferred placement of these holes ?
Drop the top holes down 3/4" with a 12 7/8" (across) spread this would make the jack plate protrude above the top of transom about 1" and might look funny (bad) but also get some extra height on motor (good).
OR
Raise the bottom holes up an inch. Here I can keep the spread the standard 9 7/8" (across)or I was thinking to alter it to 10 1/4" (across)which would follow the original proportions of the bolt pattern.
What is the standard procedure for this situation ?
